About Green Deal & ECO

The Green Deal is the Government's flagship scheme to promote energy efficiency and means that you can improve the energy performance of your property at no up-front cost, or even completely free if you're eligible for an ECO Grant.

ECO - the Energy Company Obligation - was set up to complement the Green Deal and provides grants to low-income households, or those in deprived or rural areas. Northern Gas and Heating have installed hundreds of energy efficiency measures under this scheme, throughout 2013 and 2014. Most of these projects have seen brand new A-rated condensing boilers and loft insulation being installed on qualifying properties completely free, or with a small customer contribution ONLY where the ECO grant has not been sufficient to cover the total cost of the job.

How does the Green Deal work?

The Green Deal Assessment is the first step: this is performed by a qualified Green Deal Advisor and will inform you how your home's energy efficiency could be improved. It will also recommend certain energy efficiency measures to be installed (e.g., a new condensing boiler, loft insulation, cavity wall insulation). Next, you can approach a Green Deal Provider of your choosing to arrange a Green Deal Plan (the finance for your installation).

An approved Green Deal Installer, such as ourselves, will then visit your property to carry out the works you've requested. There will be no up-front charges. Only Green Deal Approved installers (who have a license to use the Green Deal Quality Mark) can conduct Green Deal installations. All are regulated and in-line with the PAS 2030 standard and the Green Deal Code of Practice.

Finally, repayment of the Green Deal Plan is made via the savings on your energy bill. This means that your bills will still reduce and a portion of them will go to repayment of the Green Deal Plan.

Independent and impartial advice about the Green Deal can be obtained on 0300 123 1234 or at www.gov.uk/greendeal.

What is ECO?

ECO stands for 'Energy Company Obligation'. It is important to note that the Green Deal and ECO schemes are not the same thing. ECO grants are provided by the bix 6 energy companies to assist low-income households or those deemed as being in 'fuel-poverty'. This stream of funding is completely free for the homeowner or private tenant and there are no repayments to be made. Most of our energy efficiency work to date has been funded by ECO.

Northern Gas and Heating can help you to access ECO funding if you are eligible. We can also help to arrange a 'blended' mix of Green Deal finance and ECO grants, which may be suitable where the contribution that ECO cannot cover the total cost of the installation.

Why choose Northern Gas & Heating?

We are a Green Deal Approved Installer (NICI00288) for the following energy efficiency measures and have a team of fully-qualified, friendly and helpful operatives on-hand to improve the energy efficiency of your home. Our work could save you up to £300 per year on your energy bills. ECO-funded installations are completely free and do not require repayment. Green Deal Plans are attached to your home, not you, and are repaid via the savings made on your energy bills.

We offer a complete end-to-end service, which is regulated by NICEIC, a UKAS-accredited Certification Body. All or installation work is performed in-line with the PAS 2030 standard.

All our Green Deal and ECO services are undertaken with complete transparency, so if a customer contribution were to be required we will always give a full breakdown. This is only likely to be the case for more complicated boiler installs (e.g., converting a back-boiler system to a combi-system). Loft Insulation work does not currently require a customer contribution in any case.
